What Are Demountable Buildings?

Demountable buildings are, in many ways, very similar to the traditional household flat packs that so many of us are used to and have a wide range of benefits to business. They are easy to transport, cheaper than non-demountable buildings and they are relatively quick to build as long you have a somewhat flat, level site. And of course, they have a range of flexible uses because they can be disassembled and reassembled in other locations to meet your day-to-day requirements.

They can be rented for a fixed term or if bought can be dismantled and put into storage when not needed. There is a huge number of benefits to demountable buildings and in recent years significant advances have given those companies who need more space on site an option that is incredibly flexible, very fast to erect and highly affordable.

UNCERTAIN ECONOMIC CLIMATE

The looming impact of Brexit is one example where companies need extra space as lead times for raw materials are seriously threatened should there be no deal. These buildings are available on rental packages so a business in this uncertain economic and political climate can opt to rent a demountable building, for a period of any length of time (6 months to 60 months) and be secure in the knowledge that whatever actually unfolds they have secured the supply chain raw materials for their business to continue to operate whatever the final outcome over the next 1-5 years.

AREN’T THEY JUST PORTABLE BUILDINGS?

What you will find is that the majority of people refer to any type of building that can be relocated to another site as “modular”, “portable” or “temporary”. These are all structures that can be moved without the need to be dismantled. The Portable “porta” cabin that most people are familiar with for example can be lifted from one location and placed in a new one without any disassembling – making them a very portable building.

Unless you are already within the industry, then you are far more likely to be familiar with the term “temporary building”, rather than the phrase “demountable buildings,” but this really is the best way to describe them. It is precisely what those people who design and manufacture them refer to them as. They are buildings that can be taken down, folded up and packed away.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DEMOUNTABLE BUILDINGS?

It could be argued that the term “demountable” certainly helps to create a number of benefits. In fact, the very nature of the way in which these types of buildings work are in themselves a considerable benefit.

Transporting Your Demountable Building

There is no denying that demountable buildings are fast and easy to transport. They are packed and loaded before being transported to their final destination in individual parts, often they can be transported on just one lorry which makes them very easy and affordable to move around.

Installing the New Units

A key feature of a demountable building is that it is lightweight; they are usually manufactured using an industrial aluminium framework, which makes them durable while being light enough to transport easily. They are certainly much easier to transport and handle than the steel alternative.

On average the installation of a demountable building takes around a week, sometimes less. And is dependent on the square meters of the building. Buildings can range from 100m2 (10x 10m) to many thousands of square meters. There is usually no need for any ground works or pre-prepared foundations as it is possible to use an existing hard surface in order to anchor the structure down.

Eco-Friendly

A huge and very significant benefit of a demountable building is that they are structures that can be used time and time again. To put it simply just one building can be used by a number of different companies over the course of a number of years for a wide variety of applications. It is also worth remembering that aluminium is highly recyclable and to do so requires only minimal energy, making it a highly “green” material to use.

Wear and Tear

When it comes to the general wear and tear demountable buildings are no different to anything that might occur in traditionally constructed buildings, except that the sectional nature of a demountable building makes it easier to repair. It means that whether the damage occurs to a section of the roof, a panel in the wall or any other component, they can easily be replaced without the need to do a significant amount of work.

Damage to the Ground

It is rare for a demountable building to leave any damage to the ground when it is removed. In fact, it is rare for there to be any evidence that the building was even there; meaning, it is easy to either revert to the land’s original use or create a new purpose with minimal effort.

Flexibility

For any company who are based on multiple sites, these structures are very easy to demount and simply move from one location to another with relatively little fuss. If you find that you don’t need a building you also have the option to demount it and store the components away until you need to re-install it and use it again for another purpose. Or the option to rent the building for a fixed term that then can turn into a rolling contract – the ultimate flexibility for any business

Value for Money

The dismantling process of a demountable building is easy, which means it will retain its value. The aluminium framework makes it non-corrosive, so it will never rust. Both of these benefits mean that if you have purchased as opposed to rented your building should you no longer require your demountable building then there should be no problem selling it on.

Comprehensive Range of Customisable Buildings

Depending on the needs of your business or projects, the demountable buildings offered by Lauralu are bespoke and fully customisable. So whether you need custom racking and mezzanines, or something that will withstand inclement weather but still look good, it can be planned for and accommodated.

ARE DEMOUNTABLE BUILDINGS DURABLE AND GOOD QUALITY?

The fact that a building is demountable, does not affect either the durability or the quality of the structure. While it is true that demountable buildings can be hired out or removed when they are no longer required; there are many companies that choose to use them on a more permanent basis. This is in line with the stringent required structural building regulations and planning permission. And the added benefits for these companies are of course he fact that when they no longer require them, they can be sold on.

This type of building is most frequently used for industrial applications on-site, in circumstances where the extra space is needed and quickly. Warehousesworkshop, production units, storage buildings, and loading and unloading canopies are a few of their uses. They are incredibly durable and can be used for any length of time from just 6 months to 20 years.
